For those of you who don't know, my sister is a police officer up north in a small aboriginal community and was severly beaton on Wednesday night. Her alleged attacker, was intoxicated and high (a short term substance abuser). The offender had already beaten up a doctor, a nurse and a co-worker at the local community clinic where his partner had been recieving treatment for the attack he made on her.
The police were called to aprehend the offender on Wed afternoon. My sister, a senior officer and her partner were called to the scene of the offenders house and things turned nasty. To cut a long story short, she ended up in his house with the other officers asking him to surrender himself. He had locked him self in a room and was literally waiting for the police to arrive. Turns out, he was waiting behind a door with a chain with a padlock on the end of it, and a baseball bat with a metal end exposed.
My sister knocked on the door, he opened it and swung at her. She sprayed him with capsicum spray, but it did not slow him down due to his level of intoxication. He came out swinging the chain and bat and made a beeline for her. She tried retreating and managed to run down the hallway and get out of the house, however this was AFTER he had hit her several times with both the bat and chain.
We got a call from the hospital around 10.30pm on Wednesday night to say that my sister was being flown to the nearest city for emergency treatment. she had a suspected broken jaw, cheek and arm. The police insisted i fly up to her so that I could help support her. So here I am, it's Saturday night and i've given her some pain relief so she can try to sleep. She is back home for the moment, has the police psycologists all over her and is in a fair bit of pain. I'll be here until Monday, but all seems to be going okay. She is recovering well. I'ts been hard for me to keep up my training and nutrition while i've been here, but I am doing my best. My best is good enough at this point and iti's all I can do!
Anyway, I hope to be back soon, but at the moment, my sister is my priority.
PS the guy is now in prision and won't be out anytime soon. Alcohol and drugs in the cape communities are such a lethal combination. Not good for any community or society!
