Wow what a week. Have you ever been through a week where nothing went right? It takes a lifetime to pass, but when you get to the end "its Friday already?!" Last week was like that for me. Busy at work, plagued with little (irritating) injuries. It felt like I couldn't move forward with my training and I barely had a second to scratch my a$$. Hump day was the worst. I worked all day after doing cardio in the morning. Went straight to training from work. Training was pittiful. Then to the shops for some groceries, then straight home to cook (not only dinner but my meals for the next couple of days aswell). The first time I sat down was to eat dinner for 10 minutes, then straight to bed in an effort to get as close as possible to 8 hours sleep. If you don't look after your hormones, they won't look after you.
After a day like that it's hard to catch up. The rest of the week played out in the same fashion. Busier than hell at work then busting my gut at training in the evening. Its funny, as often as I hear that people can't manage to do any exercise because they are too tired from working all day, I can never sympathise because there's honestly nothing I'd rather do. You have to be carefeul not to over train but theres no better release for stress or anxiety from your workplace or home life than throwing heavy iron things around.
I've often thought about drug and alcohol use as the polar opposite from training. With the gym its a couple of hours of hard work, then the feeling you get afterwards is fantastic. Full muscles and a good night sleep. Whereas drug and alcohol abuse is a few hours of bliss followed by days of depleted muscles and poor sleep. Thats just my take on it.
