Hi Juli,
just my opinion, but I'd stay AWAY from any supplement that has a thermogenic type affect on the body!! you could try something like L-Carnitine which is a free form amino acid that is FANTASTIC for helping the body turn fat into an energy source!! Cool hey!xx

I second that opinion. If you've hit a plateau then you should always change your nutrition and/or training at the first instance. I can appreciate how frustrating it may be but sometimes you just have to be patient and trust that change will happen when it's supposed to.

Some girls take Hydroxycut, but for me personally I don't. It makes me too jittery and really makes me feel strange. Then I have a huge thud when coming down off them, plus poor sleep. I believe it plays around with your nervous system and puts your body into the "fight or flight" response mode, which raises your cortisol levels.

Another thing that convinced me not to take them was what my coach said when I told him that the fat burners always gave me a loose tummy. He said "Of course it does, they raise your body temperature, which makes the food go off in your stomach. It's the same as leaving food in a bucket out in the sun... what do you think is going to happen?!" That mental picture alone was enough... LOL!!

It's a personal choice so you have to make the decision that's best for you, but mine is to not use them.

I would also get your blood pressure, etc. checked with a doctor before going on any of these kinds of supplements. In face a friend of mine who works in ICU said you should see a doctor before taking ANY supplements, even vitamins and especially if you are on medication already.

As far as I'm aware, PURE Amino acids are aok with any form of medication but to check for yourself, email info@musashi.com.au they have a medical practitioner, pharmacist, naturopath and sports scientist on board to answer such questions.

Jamie Eason in the Oxygen magazine stated that she takes Hydroxycut and likes it. Is that really true or is she just advertising for them? Would Hydroxycut (other supplements) fit into the "Clean Eating" that Tosca Reno continuously writes about in the magazine? I've just started taking Hydroxycut Max because I can't shake the 5 lbs I've slowly put on iin the last year. I am turning 40 and my 5 or 6 day per week workouts, 75% clean eating lifestyle is not doing the trick. I refuse to give up all my treats and alcohol on the weekends and am really discouraged that what I'm doing already is not enough to be super lean like Jamie. So, after reading Jamie's article in Oxygen, I went out and bought Hydroxycut Max and am trying it. I'm worried about side effects and what will happen when I stop taking them. Or, will I have to take them forever? Will I even notice a difference? Help!?!

Hi Cierra, by wine, how much do you mean on the weekends, and what are these other "treats" that you refer to? Hydroxycut and other supplements are not a magic pill. There is none. There is only hard work and sacrifice. So by not wanting to give up your treats and wine on weekends even until you are at a point where you are happy with your body and then introduce them back in, leads me to think that you're not really serious about losing the last 5lbs. If you are not willing to give up your wine and treats to reach your ideal body, then I hope I don't sound too harsh in saying this, but perhaps you should just learn to be happy with where you are? Treats and wine on weekends, or your ideal body... the choice is entirely yours.
